Overview

**Chromic phosphate** is a radiopharmaceutical agent consisting of chromic phosphate particles labeled with the radioactive isotope phosphorus-32 (32P). It is used primarily for the treatment of malignant effusions (leakage of fluid caused by cancer) into the peritoneal or pleural cavities, particularly for palliation in advanced cancers. The primary mechanism of action is the emission of beta radiation by phosphorus-32, which leads to local irradiation and destruction of malignant cells in the treated cavity[1][3][7][9]. Chromic phosphate may also be given by interstitial injection for cancers such as ovarian or prostate cancer, and has been used in palliative treatment of bone metastases and leukemias[7]. Administration requires specialized training in nuclear medicine due to the risks associated with radioactive materials.
