Chromium dinicocysteinate is a complex of trivalent chromium and L-cysteine investigated as a dietary supplement aimed at improving glycemic control and reducing vascular inflammation, especially in type 2 diabetes. Mechanistic studies in animal models and limited clinical trials suggest that chromium dinicocysteinate improves glucose metabolism, reduces oxidative stress, and lowers markers of vascular inflammation more significantly than other chromium complexes such as chromium picolinate or chromium dinicotinate. Proposed mechanisms include the upregulation of adiponectin, maintenance of higher blood vitamin C levels, and downregulation/inhibition of pro-inflammatory and insulin-signaling pathways, such as NFkB, Akt, and GLUT-2, while promoting IRS-1 activation[2][4][6]. It is not approved as a pharmaceutical agent and is primarily considered a dietary supplement researched for adjunctive use in type 2 diabetes.
