Chromium malate is an organic chromium complex consisting of trivalent chromium and malic acid. It is primarily investigated for its potential therapeutic effects in managing type 2 diabetes mellitus and associated metabolic disorders. Preclinical research indicates that chromium malate exhibits superior pharmacokinetic properties compared to other chromium supplements like chromium picolinate and chromium trichloride, including a significantly prolonged mean retention time (MRT) and increased area under the curve (AUC). Its mechanism of action is thought to involve the potentiation of insulin signaling, thereby improving glycometabolism and adipose metabolization. Additionally, chromium malate has been shown to positively influence the absorption and serum levels of essential trace metals such as calcium, magnesium, iron, copper, and zinc, which are often imbalanced in diabetic states.
