Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Chromalüm is a topical pharmaceutical preparation containing chromium potassium sulfate, commonly known as chrome alum. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of hyperhidrosis, particularly hyperhidrosis pedum (excessive foot sweating). As an astringent, it works by precipitating proteins on the skin's surface and within the sweat gland ducts, leading to a temporary mechanical blockage that reduces sweat secretion. Additionally, it exhibits mild antimicrobial properties, which can help mitigate the odor associated with excessive perspiration. It is typically administered as a foot bath or topical solution and is a well-established treatment in certain European markets, particularly Germany.
