Overview

Chrysanthemum refers to a genus of flowering plants in the Asteraceae family, native to Asia and northeastern Europe. The flowers and aerial parts are widely used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and as herbal tea. Chrysanthemum contains flavonoids and phenolic compounds with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It is traditionally used for conditions such as hypertension, angina, fever, common cold, diabetes, stroke, inflammation-related diseases, osteoarthritis symptoms relief, liver detoxification support, gut health improvement (including indigestion), immune system boosting due to antibacterial/antiviral effects, and as a natural insecticide for lice treatment. Preclinical studies suggest cytotoxicity against cancer cells (in vitro), neuroprotective effects in ischemic stroke patients (small studies), antihyperlipidemic activity, anti-atherosclerotic effects and potential reversal of multidrug resistance in cancer cell lines. However clinical evidence supporting these uses is limited or lacking[1][2][3][5].
