Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Chrysanthemum zawadskii extract is a botanical preparation derived from the stems, leaves, and flowers of Chrysanthemum zawadskii or its variety latilobum. Traditionally used in East Asian medicine for inflammatory diseases, gastrointestinal disorders, bladder-related conditions, hypertension, and hair loss[2][5]. The main active constituents are terpenoids and flavonoids[2], with additional essential oils and polysaccharides contributing to its pharmacological effects. Preclinical studies have demonstrated anti-inflammatory[5][6], antioxidant[3][6], immunomodulatory[3], antibacterial (including activity against MRSA)[4], anti-allergic[2], anticancer[2], neuroprotective[3] and antiosteoporotic properties[3]. It has also shown potential benefits in ameliorating lung injury by suppressing pulmonary inflammation as well as promoting hair growth through effects on hair follicle cycling in animal models[2][6]. Mechanistically, the antioxidant effects are attributed to phenolic compounds such as chlorogenic acids; it can modulate cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) activity and inhibit P-glycoprotein (P-gp), potentially affecting drug metabolism and transport in humans[3].
