Overview

CHS-3318 is an investigational small molecule antagonist of the P2X7 receptor being developed for the treatment of various inflammatory and immunological conditions. The P2X7 receptor is an ATP-gated ion channel that plays a critical role in the activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome and the subsequent release of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) and interleukin-18 (IL-18). By blocking this receptor, CHS-3318 aims to modulate the innate immune response and reduce chronic inflammation. The drug was originally part of a development agreement between Coherus BioSciences and AbbVie, though Coherus later returned the rights to the program. It has been explored for potential applications in diseases where NLRP3-mediated inflammation is a key driver.
