Overview
Chuan xiong rhizoma aqueous extract is a water-based botanical preparation derived from the dried rhizome of *Ligusticum chuanxiong* Hort. (Sichuan lovage), a plant widely used in traditional Chinese medicine. The extract contains a complex profile of bioactive compounds, including phthalides (such as ligustilide), phenolic acids (notably ferulic acid), alkaloids, and polysaccharides. Preclinical research has demonstrated that the extract possesses neuroprotective, cardiovascular, and anti-tumor properties. Specifically, it has been investigated for its potential to enhance the efficacy of chemotherapeutic agents like temozolomide in treating melanoma brain metastases by modulating blood-brain barrier (BBB) integrity and exerting antioxidant effects on endothelial cells. It is primarily utilized as a research compound in preclinical models and is not currently an approved pharmaceutical product.
