Overview

Chuankezhi (CKZ) is an injectable traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) approved in China for the treatment of bronchial asthma. [3] It is composed of extracts from two herbs: Epimedium (Yin Yang Huo) and Morinda officinalis (Ba Ji Tian). [4] In TCM theory, it is used to warm the kidney-yang, relieve coughs and asthma, and has anti-allergic and immune-enhancing functions. [2, 8] Chuankezhi is administered via intramuscular injection. [4, 8] Clinical research and network pharmacology studies suggest its therapeutic effects may be due to the regulation of immune function and anti-inflammatory pathways. [4, 9, 10] For example, studies indicate it may activate the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway and modulate the IL-17 signaling pathway. [4, 10] It is being investigated for other conditions, including atopic dermatitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and steroid-resistant focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS).
