Chuanxiaokang

Chuanxiaokang is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed by the Hunan Provincial Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine, specifically indicated for the treatment and management of bronchial asthma. It is primarily utilized during the clinical remission or chronic persistent stages of asthma to prevent exacerbations and improve lung function. The formulation is based on TCM principles of tonifying the lung, spleen, and kidney to address the underlying deficiencies associated with chronic respiratory conditions. Pharmacological research indicates that Chuanxiaokang works by modulating the immune system, specifically by restoring the balance between Th1 and Th2 cytokines. It has been shown to decrease levels of pro-inflammatory mediators such as Interleukin-4 (IL-4) and Interleukin-5 (IL-5) while increasing the expression of Interferon-gamma (IFN-γ). Additionally, it reduces serum Immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels and inhibits airway eosinophil infiltration, which collectively helps to suppress airway hyperresponsiveness and mitigate airway remodeling.
