Overview

ChulaCov19 BNA159 is an mRNA-based vaccine developed to prevent COVID-19, the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The vaccine was developed by the Chulalongkorn University Vaccine Research Center (ChulaVRC) in Thailand, in collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania and BioNet-Asia. It utilizes messenger RNA (mRNA) technology to encode the spike protein of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, thereby inducing both neutralizing antibodies and T-cell immune responses. The 'BNA159' designation refers to the specific vaccine lots manufactured in Thailand by BioNet-Asia. Clinical development has evaluated the vaccine's safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity in healthy adults and elderly populations, as well as its efficacy as a booster dose following primary vaccination with other authorized COVID-19 vaccines.
