Overview

Chung-Pae (CP) is a traditional Korean herbal medicine formulation used for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other inflammatory lung conditions. Administered via inhalation or intratracheal routes, CP exhibits potent anti-inflammatory properties by suppressing the recruitment of leukocytes and neutrophils to the lungs. Its mechanism involves the downregulation of proinflammatory cytokines, specifically interleukin-1β (IL-1β), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β). Preclinical studies in mouse models have shown that CP treatment reduces histological lung damage and chronic inflammation, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic strategy for chronic respiratory diseases.
