Chungpa-jeon

Chungpa-jeon is a traditional Korean herbal medicine (Hanbang) decoction developed and utilized by the Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine for the treatment of various musculoskeletal disorders, including intervertebral disc herniation, non-specific lower back pain, and osteoarthritis. The formulation is a complex mixture of 11 medicinal herbs: *Ostericum koreanum*, *Eucommia ulmoides*, *Acanthopanax sessiliflorus*, *Achyranthes bidentata*, *Psoralea corylifolia*, *Peucedanum japonicum*, *Cibotium barometz*, *Lycium chinense*, *Boschniakia rossica*, *Cuscuta chinensis*, and *Atractylodes japonica*. It is primarily used for its anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and bone-protective properties, which are believed to result from the synergistic effects of its phytochemical constituents. A standardized 6-herb extract derived from this formula, known as GCSB-5 (marketed as Shinbaro), has also been developed for broader pharmaceutical use. Chungpa-jeon is typically administered orally as a liquid decoction or in a dried powder form.
