CI632D is an investigational dexamethasone-eluting cochlear implant developed by Cochlear Limited for the treatment of moderately severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss. The system integrates a drug-delivery mechanism into the electrode array, allowing for the sustained release of dexamethasone directly into the cochlea. This localized administration of a synthetic glucocorticoid is intended to reduce the foreign body response, inflammation, and subsequent fibrosis that typically follow the surgical implantation of cochlear electrodes. By mitigating these pathological processes, CI632D aims to preserve residual hearing and improve the long-term stability and performance of the electrode-neural interface.
