Overview

Cicaderma is a topical homeopathic ointment developed by Laboratoire Boiron, composed of a soft paraffin extract of *Calendula officinalis* (marigold), *Hypericum perforatum* (St. John's wort), and *Achillea millefolium* (yarrow), along with the mother tincture of *Ledum palustre* (wild rosemary). Traditionally indicated for the treatment of minor wounds, superficial burns, and insect bites, it has been investigated as a supportive care agent for the prevention of radiation-induced dermatitis in breast cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy. In the Phase III CICA-RT study, while Cicaderma did not meet its primary endpoint of superiority over standard care in preventing grade ≥2 dermatitis, it demonstrated a clinically significant reduction in the occurrence of grade ≥2 pruritus (itching). The ointment is thought to promote healing by inhibiting inflammatory processes and matrix metalloproteinase activity.
