Overview

cichorium intybus extract (commonly known as chicory extract) is a botanical extract derived from the roots, seeds, or aerial parts of the *Cichorium intybus* plant. It is rich in bioactive compounds, including inulin (a prebiotic fiber), sesquiterpene lactones (such as lactucin and lactucopicrin), and polyphenols (such as chicoric acid and chlorogenic acid). The extract has been investigated for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, hepatoprotective, and metabolic regulatory properties. In clinical and preclinical studies, it has been evaluated for the management of osteoarthritis, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Phytomedics, Inc. sponsored a Phase 1 clinical trial evaluating a proprietary bioactive extract of chicory root for the treatment of osteoarthritis of the hip or knee.
