ciclometasone

CHF 4226, also known as ciclometasone, is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid that was under development by Chiesi Farmaceutici for the treatment of respiratory conditions, primarily asthma. As a glucocorticoid receptor agonist, it functions by binding to cytosolic glucocorticoid receptors, which then translocate to the nucleus to inhibit the expression of pro-inflammatory genes and promote the expression of anti-inflammatory genes. This mechanism reduces airway inflammation, edema, and mucus secretion. CHF 4226 was specifically investigated in HFA-propelled pressurized metered-dose inhaler (pMDI) formulations to provide an alternative to CFC-based inhalers. Clinical development reached Phase 2 trials in the early 2000s, but the program appears to have been discontinued in favor of other corticosteroid products in the Chiesi pipeline.
