Overview
A combination of ciclosporin (cyclosporine A) and paclitaxel primarily used to improve the oral bioavailability of paclitaxel. Paclitaxel alone is not inherently bioavailable when administered orally due to overexpression of P-glycoprotein (P-gp) by intestinal cells and significant first-pass extraction by cytochrome P450-dependent processes[1]. Ciclosporin A functions as an inhibitor of both P-glycoprotein and cytochrome P450 3A4, which helps overcome these barriers to oral paclitaxel absorption[2].
