Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CIDD-0150303 is a novel oxamniquine (OXA) derivative developed as a pan-species and pan-stage antischistosomal agent for the treatment of human schistosomiasis. Developed by researchers at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UT Health San Antonio), the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), and UF Scripps Biomedical Research, the compound was identified through structure-guided design of over 350 oxamniquine analogs. Unlike oxamniquine, which is only effective against *Schistosoma mansoni*, CIDD-0150303 exhibits 100% lethality in vitro against all three major human schistosome species (*S. mansoni*, *S. haematobium*, and *S. japonicum*) and is effective against both adult and juvenile (immature) stages of the parasites. It is activated by schistosome sulfotransferase (SULT) and has demonstrated efficacy in animal models against praziquantel (PZQ)-resistant parasites, making it a promising candidate for monotherapy or co-administration with PZQ to mitigate drug resistance.
