Overview

CIDEM-501 + CIDEM-503 is a therapeutic candidate consisting of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) developed by the Centro de Investigaciones y Desarrollo de Medicamentos (CIDEM) in Cuba. These peptides are specifically engineered to address infectious diseases caused by antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Antimicrobial peptides typically function by electrostatically adhering to the bacterial cell membrane and subsequently inserting into the lipid bilayer, causing membrane permeabilization, leakage of cytoplasmic contents, and rapid cell death. This mechanism of action is considered less prone to the development of resistance compared to traditional antibiotics that target specific enzymes or metabolic pathways. The project is currently in the development phase, targeting a broad range of multi-drug resistant (MDR) pathogens.
