CIGB 2020 Vaccine

CIGB 2020 is a vaccine candidate and immunopotentiator developed by the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) in Havana, Cuba. Designed for the prophylaxis and treatment of COVID-19, it is administered via nasal and sublingual routes to strengthen mucosal immunity. Unlike traditional vaccines that induce specific adaptive immunity against a pathogen, CIGB 2020 is intended to activate the innate immune system at the local level where respiratory viruses enter the body. By stimulating these early defense mechanisms, the vaccine aims to prevent the progression of COVID-19 to more severe stages in both suspected contacts and confirmed cases. The candidate is based on a protein subunit platform previously utilized in other CIGB products, such as HeberNasvac.
