CIGB-845 is a neuroprotective and neurorestorative combination therapy consisting of growth hormone-releasing peptide 6 (GHRP-6) and epidermal growth factor (EGF). Developed by the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) in Havana, Cuba, it is designed to provide a multi-target approach to central nervous system protection. EGF promotes neurogenesis and remyelination, while GHRP-6 induces the expression of endogenous neuroprotective factors, offering anti-apoptotic and anti-excitotoxic effects. The drug is primarily being advanced for the treatment of ischemic stroke, with preclinical evidence supporting its potential in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and autoimmune encephalitis.
