Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ciklavit is an oral nutraceutical syrup developed by Neimeth International Pharmaceuticals for the management of sickle cell disease. It is formulated from an aqueous extract of *Cajanus cajan* (pigeon pea) seeds and is fortified with essential amino acids, vitamins (specifically Vitamin C/ascorbic acid), and minerals (specifically Zinc). The product functions as an anti-sickling agent, improving red blood cell deformability and reducing the frequency and severity of vaso-occlusive crises. Clinical evidence suggests it may also induce the production of fetal hemoglobin (HbF) and protect the liver from disease-related damage. It is marketed in Nigeria as the first indigenous nutritional supplement specifically for sickle cell anemia management.
