cilazapril

Cilazapril is an orally active angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor used primarily to treat hypertension and heart failure. It acts as a prodrug that is hydrolyzed after absorption to its active form, cilazaprilat. Cilazapril works by competitively inhibiting ACE, thereby blocking the conversion of angiotensin I to the potent vasoconstrictor angiotensin II. This leads to decreased vasoconstriction and reduced aldosterone-mediated sodium and water reabsorption, resulting in lower blood pressure and reduced vascular resistance. Cilazapril may also be used for diabetic nephropathy to protect kidney function[1][4][5][6]. The drug has a pharmacological profile similar to other ACE inhibitors such as enalapril and ramipril[6].
