Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cillbact is an injectable combination antibiotic developed and marketed by Rantomo Lifesciences. It consists of piperacillin, a broad-spectrum ureidopenicillin, and tazobactam, a beta-lactamase inhibitor, typically formulated in a 4:0.5 ratio (totaling 4.5 grams). Piperacillin exerts its bactericidal effect by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). Tazobactam serves to protect piperacillin from hydrolysis by various beta-lactamase enzymes, thereby extending its activity against beta-lactamase-producing bacteria. Cillbact is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe infections, including nosocomial pneumonia, complicated intra-abdominal infections, and skin and skin structure infections.
