Cilnidipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker used primarily for the management of hypertension. It uniquely blocks both L-type and N-type voltage-dependent calcium channels. By inhibiting L-type channels in vascular smooth muscle, it induces vasodilation and reduces peripheral vascular resistance, thereby lowering blood pressure. Its action on N-type channels at sympathetic nerve endings inhibits norepinephrine release, further contributing to blood pressure reduction and providing an antisympathetic effect. Cilnidipine is reported to be beneficial for patients with comorbid conditions such as diabetes, albuminuria, chronic kidney disease, and has been studied for use in Raynaud's phenomenon and systemic sclerosis[1][2][3][5][7].
