Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cilnipres is a small molecule antihypertensive medication containing the active ingredient cilnidipine, a fourth-generation calcium channel blocker. Unlike traditional calcium channel blockers that primarily target L-type channels, Cilnipres acts as a dual antagonist of both L-type and N-type voltage-gated calcium channels. By blocking L-type channels in the vascular smooth muscle, it induces vasodilation and reduces peripheral resistance. Its action on N-type channels, located on sympathetic nerve endings, inhibits the release of norepinephrine, thereby suppressing sympathetic overactivity and providing additional cardioprotective and renoprotective benefits. Developed and marketed by East West Pharma, it is approved for the management of hypertension and the prevention of angina pectoris.
