Overview
Cilostan CR is a controlled-release (CR) oral tablet formulation of cilostazol, a quinolinone derivative. It is primarily used for the treatment of stable intermittent claudication associated with peripheral artery disease (PAD). Cilostan CR works by inhibiting phosphodiesterase 3 (PDE3), which leads to increased levels of intracellular cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP). This biochemical change results in the inhibition of platelet aggregation and induces vasodilation. As a controlled-release formulation, it is designed to provide a more stable pharmacokinetic profile compared to immediate-release versions, although clinical studies in Korea have compared its bioavailability and safety profile to other extended-release formulations like Pletaal SR.
