Overview

Cilostazol + ginkgo biloba is a combination therapy involving cilostazol, a synthetic antiplatelet agent and vasodilator, and Ginkgo biloba, an herbal extract with antioxidant and vasoactive properties. Cilostazol acts as a phosphodiesterase III inhibitor, increasing cAMP in platelets and blood vessels to inhibit platelet aggregation and promote vasodilation. Ginkgo biloba contains terpene lactones (such as ginkgolides) and flavone glycosides that inhibit platelet-activating factor, possess antioxidant effects, modulate neurotransmitter uptake, and also inhibit platelet aggregation. This combination has been studied for enhanced antiplatelet activity in the management of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and intermittent claudication. Some studies suggest the combination may potentiate bleeding time prolongation compared to either agent alone[1][2][6]. However, other research indicates enhanced antithrombotic efficacy without significantly increasing bleeding risk[6].
