Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CIMAvax-EGF is a therapeutic cancer vaccine composed of recombinant human epidermal growth factor (EGF) conjugated to a P64k carrier protein from *Neisseria meningitidis*, formulated with the adjuvant Montanide ISA 51. Developed by the Center of Molecular Immunology in Cuba, it is designed to induce an active immune response against endogenous EGF. The resulting anti-EGF antibodies sequester circulating EGF, preventing it from binding to its receptor (EGFR) on tumor cells. This blockade inhibits the EGFR signaling pathway, which is critical for the growth and survival of various cancers. While primarily used for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), it is currently being investigated in the United States by Roswell Park Cancer Institute for other indications, including metastatic colorectal cancer in patients with wild-type KRAS, NRAS, and BRAF genes.
