Overview

Cimetidine + dexpramipexole refers to the co-administration of two small molecule drugs. Cimetidine is a histamine H2 receptor antagonist that reduces gastric acid secretion by competitively inhibiting histamine binding at H2 receptors on gastric parietal cells, primarily used for conditions like peptic ulcer disease and gastroesophageal reflux disease. Dexpramipexole is an experimental neuroprotective agent investigated for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The combination has been studied in clinical trials to assess pharmacokinetic interactions, as cimetidine can inhibit certain cytochrome P450 enzymes and potentially alter the metabolism of co-administered drugs such as dexpramipexole. There are no approved indications for this combination; it has been evaluated in phase 1 studies primarily to understand drug-drug interactions and safety profiles in healthy volunteers[1][2][3][4].
