Overview

Cinalukast is a small molecule drug that functions as a selective antagonist of the cysteinyl leukotriene 1 (CysLT1) receptor. It primarily acts in the human airway to block the effects of leukotriene D4 (LTD4), thereby preventing inflammatory responses such as airway edema, smooth muscle contraction, and excessive mucus secretion. It has been investigated for the treatment of asthma and for the prolonged protection against exercise-induced bronchoconstriction. Additionally, it has been noted to have a role as an anti-arrhythmia drug.
