Overview
Cinnamomum verum extract is an investigational botanical product derived from true cinnamon, currently being evaluated by the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Honduras. The extract's primary active constituent is cinnamaldehyde, an α,β-unsaturated aromatic aldehyde comprising approximately 63% of the oil. It is being studied in a Phase 2 clinical trial (CINNALAB) for the induction of labor in nulliparous pregnant patients under 18 years of age with labor onset abnormalities. While cinnamon has a history of ethnopharmacological use in Honduras for facilitating childbirth and postpartum recovery, its clinical efficacy for labor induction and the reduction of physiological phases 2-3 of labor is currently being rigorously tested against a placebo. The extract is administered orally in 1000 mg capsules.
