Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cinnamon oil is an essential oil extracted from the bark or leaves of plants in the genus Cinnamomum, including species such as Cinnamomum cassia and Cinnamomum verum. The primary active compound in cinnamon oil is cinnamaldehyde, which gives it its characteristic aroma and many of its biological activities. Cinnamon oil exhibits a range of pharmacological effects including antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, hypoglycemic (blood sugar-lowering), and potential antitumor properties. It has been traditionally used to combat microorganisms and gastrointestinal disorders and is also utilized in aromatherapy for relaxation. While widely used as a flavoring agent and dietary supplement ingredient, evidence supporting its use for specific medical conditions remains limited[1][2][3][5].
