cinnovex

Cinnovex is a biosimilar of interferon beta-1a, a recombinant protein produced in Chinese hamster ovary cells. It consists of 166 amino acids with a molecular weight of approximately 22.5 kDa and is glycosylated to match the natural human form. Cinnovex acts as an immunomodulator and is primarily used for the treatment of relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS), where it reduces the frequency and severity of disease relapses and helps slow progression. The drug was developed by CinnaGen in collaboration with Fraunhofer Institute, making it one of the first biogeneric therapeutic proteins approved from a Fraunhofer laboratory[7][8]. Clinical studies have demonstrated its efficacy and safety profile comparable to that of Avonex (the reference product)[3][9]. It is administered as an intramuscular injection once weekly[4][6].
