cinobufacini

Cinobufacini is a traditional Chinese medicine derived from the skin and parotid glands of the toad Bufo bufo gargarizans Cantor. It is used primarily as an antitumor agent in China and has been formulated as both an injection and capsule. The main active ingredients include bufalin, bufogenin, telocinobufagin, desacetylcinobufagin, arenobufagin (in capsules), and bufothionine (notably in injections). Cinobufacini exerts its anticancer effects through multiple mechanisms including inhibition of cell proliferation, induction of apoptosis and cell cycle arrest in tumor cells, disruption of cancer angiogenesis, reversal of multidrug resistance, immune modulation, and regulation of several signaling pathways such as PI3K-Akt/AKT-mTOR-NF-κB-JAK-STAT-PIN1-YAP/TAZ. It has demonstrated efficacy against various cancers including gastric cancer[1], triple-negative breast cancer[2], osteosarcoma[4], among others. The product is animal-derived (toad secretion) and widely used clinically in China for adjunctive therapy with chemotherapy or as monotherapy for malignant neoplasms.
