Overview

Cinobufacini (also known as Huachansu) is a traditional Chinese medicine injection extracted from the skins and parotid venom glands of the toad *Bufo bufo gargarizans*. Its active ingredients are primarily bufadienolides, which are cardiac glycosides. Cinobufacini has demonstrated anti-cancer properties by inducing apoptosis, suppressing cell proliferation, and inhibiting angiogenesis. It is being developed by Dongfang Hospital of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine in a Phase 1 clinical trial for the intraperitoneal treatment of malignant ascites in patients with digestive system cancer. This specific trial evaluates a local administration route to control ascites, whereas the drug is also available in other formulations for treating various malignant neoplasms.
