Overview

CINRYZE is a plasma-derived, intravenous C1 esterase inhibitor (human) used as a preventive therapy for hereditary angioedema (HAE) in adults, adolescents, and children aged 6 years and older. HAE is caused by deficiency or dysfunction of the endogenous C1 esterase inhibitor protein, leading to excessive bradykinin production and recurrent episodes of swelling. CINRYZE works by increasing plasma levels of functional C1-INH, thereby inhibiting the activation of complement and contact systems that generate bradykinin. This reduces the frequency and severity of angioedema attacks[3][4][5][6]. The drug was first approved in 2008.
