CIP-200 is an investigational bacteriophage (phage) therapy developed by Cytophage Technologies for the treatment of bacterial infections. It is specifically being studied for chronic periprosthetic joint infections (PJI) caused by methicillin-susceptible Enterococcus faecium (E. faecium). A single-patient clinical trial sponsored by the Orthopaedic Innovation Centre is evaluating the safety and efficacy of CIP-200. In the trial, the therapy is administered both intravenously and intra-articularly in combination with standard-of-care antibiotics. Bacteriophages are viruses that specifically target and destroy bacteria, offering a potential treatment option for antibiotic-resistant infections.
