Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ciprodexa Otic Foam is an investigational otic combination therapy developed by Otic Pharma for the treatment of acute otitis externa (AOE). It contains ciprofloxacin 0.3%, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, and dexamethasone 0.1%, a corticosteroid anti-inflammatory agent. The product utilizes a proprietary foam delivery system designed for once-daily administration, aiming to improve patient adherence compared to the standard twice-daily dosing of existing suspensions like Ciprodex. Ciprofloxacin acts by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are essential for bacterial DNA replication, while dexamethasone reduces the inflammatory response associated with ear infections. A Phase 2 clinical trial (NCT01359098) compared its safety and efficacy to Ciprodex Otic Suspension in patients with acute diffuse otitis externa.
