ciprodiazole

Ciprodiazole is a fixed-dose combination antibiotic containing ciprofloxacin and metronidazole, developed and marketed by Minapharm Pharmaceuticals. Ciprofloxacin is a second-generation fluoroquinolone that acts by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are essential for DNA replication, transcription, and repair, primarily targeting aerobic Gram-negative bacteria. Metronidazole is a nitroimidazole that, upon reductive activation in anaerobic environments, creates reactive intermediates that cause DNA strand breakage and cell death. This combination provides broad-spectrum coverage against mixed aerobic and anaerobic infections. It is indicated for pelvi-abdominal infections and surgical prophylaxis, and it is frequently used in the management of inflammatory bowel disease complications such as pouchitis and perianal Crohn's disease.
