ciprofibrate

Ciprofibrate is a fibric acid derivative used as a lipid-lowering agent primarily for the treatment of hyperlipidaemia in adults. It acts by activating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα), which leads to increased lipolysis and elimination of triglyceride-rich particles from plasma by activating lipoprotein lipase and reducing production of apolipoprotein C-III. This results in reduced levels of LDL and VLDL cholesterol, decreased triglycerides, and increased HDL cholesterol[1][3][4]. Ciprofibrate is typically prescribed when lifestyle modifications or other medications (such as statins) are insufficient or unsuitable[4][5]. It is available as oral tablets and has a long half-life allowing once-daily dosing[5].
