Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ciprofloxacin + amoxicillin is a combination of two antibiotics, each with distinct mechanisms of action. Ciprofloxacin is a second-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. Amoxicillin is a penicillin-type beta-lactam antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to cell lysis and death. This combination has been studied for its antibacterial effects against various pathogens, including beta-lactamase-producing Staphylococcus aureus. The interaction between these drugs can be additive or synergistic depending on the ratio used; however, certain ratios may result in antagonism[2][5]. Both drugs are widely used individually for the treatment of respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin infections, and other susceptible bacterial diseases[3][6].
