Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ciprofloxacin + rifampin is a combination antibiotic therapy used primarily for treating serious bacterial infections. Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, while rifampin inhibits bacterial RNA polymerase. This combination has been studied for treating methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections, endocarditis, and other serious bacterial infections. The combination may help reduce the emergence of resistance to ciprofloxacin, though its efficacy can be unpredictable and sometimes detrimental compared to monotherapy.
