Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ciprofloxacin for Inhalation (CFI) is an investigational antibiotic formulation developed by Aradigm Corporation for the treatment of chronic lung infections, specifically those caused by *Pseudomonas aeruginosa* in patients with non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis (NCFB) and cystic fibrosis. The most advanced version, ARD-3150 (Linhaliq), is a dual-release formulation that combines liposome-encapsulated ciprofloxacin for sustained release with unencapsulated ciprofloxacin for an immediate antibacterial effect. This delivery method, utilizing the AERx pulmonary delivery system, aims to achieve high concentrations of the drug directly at the site of infection while minimizing systemic exposure and associated side effects. Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone that works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication and transcription.
