Overview
Ciprofloxacin hydrochloride + hydrocortisone is a combination otic suspension used for the treatment of acute otitis externa (swimmer's ear). It consists of ciprofloxacin, a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic, and hydrocortisone, a low-potency corticosteroid. Ciprofloxacin exerts its antibacterial effect by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are essential for DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. Hydrocortisone provides anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive actions by binding to the glucocorticoid receptor, thereby reducing the swelling and pain associated with ear infections. This combination is specifically formulated for topical application within the external auditory canal and is effective against common pathogens such as *Pseudomonas aeruginosa* and *Staphylococcus aureus*.
