Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ciprofloxacino Cinfa is a generic formulation of the fluoroquinolone antibiotic ciprofloxacin, developed and manufactured by Laboratorios Cinfa. It is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent effective against a wide range of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. Its mechanism of action involves the inhibition of bacterial type II topoisomerases, specifically DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are critical for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, and repair. By forming a stable complex with these enzymes and DNA, ciprofloxacin induces double-stranded DNA breaks, leading to rapid bacterial cell death. In the context of research managed by the Fundación Pública Andaluza Para La Gestión De La Investigación En Salud De Sevilla (FISEVI), this formulation has been studied for its efficacy and safety in treating serious infections such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteremia.
