Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cisplatin + CalliSpheres microspheres is a drug-device combination used for drug-eluting bead transarterial chemoembolization (DEB-TACE). It consists of the generic small-molecule platinum chemotherapy agent cisplatin loaded onto CalliSpheres, which are drug-eluting embolic microspheres made of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hydrogel. Developed by Jiangsu Hengrui Medicine and its subsidiary Suzhou Hengrui Callisyn Biomedical, CalliSpheres microspheres act as a device-type embolic carrier that physically occludes tumor-feeding arteries to induce ischemia and necrosis, while slowly and steadily releasing the loaded cisplatin directly into the tumor tissue. This localized delivery maximizes intratumoral drug concentration and minimizes systemic toxicity. The combination is primarily investigated for the treatment of hypervascular malignancies, including intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, head and neck cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma, and liver metastases.
