This drug is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of three agents: - **Cisplatin** is a platinum-based chemotherapeutic agent that forms DNA crosslinks, leading to apoptosis in cancer cells. - **Docetaxel** is a taxane class chemotherapy that stabilizes microtubules and inhibits cell division. - **Motexafin gadolinium** (MGd) is a novel antineoplastic agent classified as a texaphyrin. It disrupts cancer cell antioxidant systems by accepting electrons due to its complex with gadolinium, enhancing oxidative stress and promoting cancer cell death. Motexafin gadolinium also acts as a radiation sensitizer, increasing the efficacy of radiotherapy. The combination has been studied primarily in metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), showing tolerability and some clinical activity. The regimen typically involves intravenous administration every three weeks with doses such as motexafin gadolinium at 10 mg/kg, docetaxel at 75 mg/m², and cisplatin at 75 mg/m² on day one of each cycle.
