Overview

This combination therapy is an antineoplastic regimen being evaluated for the treatment of squamous cell lung carcinoma. It consists of standard intravenous cisplatin and etoposide chemotherapy supplemented with oral metronomic cyclophosphamide. Cisplatin is a platinum-based agent that forms covalent DNA cross-links, etoposide is a topoisomerase II inhibitor that induces DNA strand breaks, and cyclophosphamide is an alkylating agent. In this specific protocol developed by the Swami Rama Cancer Hospital and Research Institute, cyclophosphamide is administered at a low, continuous daily dose (metronomic) rather than in high-dose pulses. This metronomic approach is intended to provide sustained anti-angiogenic and immunomodulatory effects, potentially delaying disease progression in patients with locally advanced or metastatic squamous cell lung carcinoma.
